Duke Rowing Adds Two More to 2011 Incoming Class

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke recruiting coordinator Jim Lister announced Thursday the signing of two additional rowers to the class of 2015. Tara Dalton and Claire Vannelli are the newest of nine members joining the Blue Devils for the 2011-2012 season.

"We are very excited to have Tara and Claire join our team," said head coach Robyn Horner. "They will have an immediate impact on our boat speed and they both posses the level of maturity to be successful collegiate athletes."

Vannelli, a native of London, Ontario, Canada, has compiled a stack of accomplishments in her young career, include representing Canada at the CanAmMex Regatta, finishing third at Henley in the single and taking first in the single at the National Rowing Championships of Canada in September.

"Claire is a natural rower," said Lister. "She has quickly learned how to move well in a boat to make it really fast, she has shown this throughout the year racing and we look forward to her continued success."

Dalton is a 5-10 athlete from The Woodlands, Texas. Last weekend she placed second in the Texas State Championships in the Women's 2x and earlier this year she placed first at the Erg Rodeo in Austin, Texas.

"Tara is a program changing rower," said Lister. "She is the fastest athlete at her program and builds up the rowers around her through her leadership as captain. We look forward to her bringing all her tangibles and intangibles to the Duke team."

Early decision candidates of the Class of 2015 include:

Brielle Batesko: Mercer Rowing Club

Sophia Blair: Radnor Crew

Alex Enzor: Connecticut Boat Club

Patricia Kolman: Mercer Rowing Club

Kara Risser: Los Gatos

Julie Rohde: Sacred Heart

Karolina Wadolowska: Sarasota Crew

All nine signees will join the Blue Devils starting in August for the 2011-12 campaign.

Great racing shots from shore. The race course is so close to the shore that you are practically standing one lane over from the racing. We had great support from parents and family. We also enjoyed the giant cookie....see pics!
